Hi all. I have upgraded this old 2008 era iMac to Mojave 10.14.4, using dusdude1's patcher. Using his method and patchers I had a perfectly bootable system without working wifi and audio. I acttually replaced the wifi card to an Atheros, then installed a kext I found online which got it working. I still can't get proper audio working. With his Legacy Audio Patcher I get bad clipping sounds. If I install a vanilla AppleHDA.kext from another Mac running 10.14.4 I get no audio devices recognized. DCPI Manager says this audio card is Realtek ALC889A. I have also tried installing Lilu.kext and AppleALC.kext into /L/E/ folder but still get no audio device (this is with the vanilla HDA kext). I know the speakers are good because the audio is perfect (and all other hardware) using an Ubuntu live USB.
I actually tried Clover as well. And yes, I then discovered threads about never using Clover on a real Mac, but I never ticked off SMC or other system patches when creating the Clover USB stick. My old iMac still works fine after testing with Clover. Oddly, the Clover boot manager said I had an Intel HDA chip for audio, so then I tried VooDooHDA 2.9.0 which created audio devices that produces no sound.
I think I am missing a boot argument for Lilu and AppleALC, but I can't really figure out what syntax I am supposed to type up. I just need a little hand holding on what exactly I am supposed to type into the boot arguments to activate AppleALC, if it indeed will work with Realtek ALC889A.
